5,000 Low-Income Children Need School Supplies in JeffCo
LAKEWOOD, CO – More than 5,000 low-income, Jefferson County children need school supplies to be successful in the classroom this year. The Action Center’s School Supply Distribution, beginning August 6th at Wheat Ridge Middle School, will ensure that these children receive the supplies they need.
13,500 children live in poverty, 28,000 (one in three) are on the free and reduced lunch program and 2,800 are in fact homeless in Jefferson County. This essential program prevents families from making difficult decisions between putting food on the table or purchasing school supplies – supplies that now cost nearly $100 per child.
The Action Center is able to meet the ever-growing need for school supplies thanks to continued community support of donations and volunteer time. Items from the list to the right can be dropped off or visit www.theactioncenterco.org to donate to our new online drive through a partnership with the Foundation for Excellence in Learning and Education (FELAE). Online gifts will be matched up to $10,000 by FELAE!
