The Action Center needs your help to support our very special food rescue partnership with Elephant Talk, a metro-area non-profit.

With your help we can “rescue” literally tons of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and dairy products that local grocers might otherwise discard. This nutritious food can then go out through the Action Center food pantry to Jefferson County families who are homeless or struggling to make ends meet.

Every dollar raised through this special e-campaign, will underwrite the delivery of 10+ pounds of food — far more than the Action Center can purchase with the same dollar.

The Where Action Matters Breakfast is May 8, 2013. This event brings the community together to hear about the help, hope and dignity that the Action Center provides to its clients each day.

During the annual one-hour event, guests learn more about the Action Center and its role in the community. Board members, volunteers and past clients share stories and speak about the effect the Action Center has had on their lives and the community. The event raises funds that the Action Center uses to provide essential stabilizing services to those in need in Jefferson County.

The Beautiful Junk Sale was a huge success! Many thanks go out to everyone that came out to shop the sale. Several hundred people showed up on Saturday, despite having nearly a foot of snow. This event would not be a success without the help of countless volunteers. Special thanks to all of the volunteers who helped from set-up to break-down, we couldn’t do it without you.

Despite the snow, we still raised approximately $40,000 that goes directly back to programs here at the Action Center that feed, clothe and shelter our neighbors in need.

It’s never too soon to mark your calendar for the next sale. We’ll see you at the Fairgrounds on October 18th and 19th for the fall Beautiful Junk Sale!

 

Citywide Banks is hosting a Charity Contest and the Action Center is a nominee! Happy Holidays! Thanks to the generosity of the community and dedicated volunteers, Santa Shop was a success. More than 4,000 low-income/homeless children will have presents to open this year. This vital program allowed parents/guardians the opportunity to pick out toys for their children completely free of cost.

Seasonal prevention programs like this help struggling individuals and families who are on razor thin budgets. This prevents them from choosing between seasonal expenses like toys or keeping up with rent and utilities; eliminating a choice that could lead to possible eviction. When clients experience this added strain on their already fragile financial situation, they can fall into a crisis or even end up homeless.
