The Program Services Building Opens Doors to Community

The Action Center’s newly renovated Program Services Building opened its doors to the community on Tuesday, April 21st. The building is located at 8745 W. 14th Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado. The new Program Services Building will allow the Action Center to fully serve both parts of its mission: Intervention Services which provides immediate needs; and case management programs such as the Self-Sufficiency Pathways Program. “The opening of the Program Services Building is a way for us to present ourselves in a new light in how we address community issues to help people move across the self-sufficiency continuum,” says Mag Strittmatter, Executive Director at the Action Center.

The Program Services Building offers dedicated space for an industry-standard self-select grocery which allows clients to choose the food they know their families will enjoy. The utilization of USDA’s Choose My Plate puts emphasis on higher nutritional offerings provided in the grocery which includes fruit, vegetables, dairy, grains and protein sources, complimented by canned and dry foods. The clothing and household areas will effectively display and rack items for people to select. The second floor is dedicated to our Intervention and Self-Sufficiency Pathways Program staff and services. This provides additional space for Self-Sufficiency Pathways Program case managers, as well as expanded space for Intervention Program volunteer client advocates.

The opening of the Program Services Building signifies the end of Phase One of the Action Center’s Capital Campaign. Donations came from over 600 individuals, businesses, churches, organizations, government entities and foundations. Significant gifts came from Community First Foundation, Anschutz Foundation, Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation, Daniels Fund, Jane and Bill Hays, Gates Family Foundation, Jefferson County, Stevinson Group, Inc. and the cities of Lakewood, Arvada and Wheat Ridge. Community First Foundation provided a $500,000 matching grant – which played a crucial role in the completion of this phase. The Action Center extends a thank you to all of our generous donors.
